The Cape Breton Boiled Dinner is a wonderful comfort food. There are different types of salt meat you can choose from. Corned Beef, Short Ribs, Pork Haks, Ribblets! Even a large ham works well. You can also half salt meat and half fresh meat because the salt meat will coat the fresh! You will need about 5lbs. of meat. You can soak it overnight or boil and rinse 2-3 times just before preparing. Using a large pot boil your meat until tender. Remove the meat keeping warm. Add 1 cabbage quartered. Boil for until softened. Next add the carrot and turnips (lg. pieces) 4 large whole onions. After 10 Min's. add potato's and parsnip. Add meat back to the pot until temperature is the same as the vegetables. Remove from pot and enjoy. With any luck you will have a little left over! It's even better the next day!
